Tooth extraction can be a very daunting prospect for some patients. At 152, we have a special dental chair which is uniquely designed for comfort during this procedure. Any tooth, including wisdom teeth, impacted teeth and retained roots can be removed by Dr Lydia Morton. Sedation is also available.

How long will the procedure take?

This depends on which tooth is being extracted, but expect the procedure to take 30-60 minutes.

What should I expect after the procedure?

The area will remain numb for an hour or so. When the local anaesthetic wears off the area will be tender. We advise taking paracetamol and/ or ibuprofen to help with the discomfort. Over the first 24 hours the area may become swollen and there will be some blood in your saliva. This is to be expected and is completely normal. You might have stitches, but these will be dissolvable. Aftercare usually involves a soft diet and salt water mouth rinses.

What are the risks?

The potential risks with this type of surgery are pain, bleeding, infection, swelling, altered touch or taste sensation, dry socket, retained root tip, damage to adjacent tooth or restoration and communication with the cheek sinus.
